Has YWCA Touched Your Life?

Nonprofits across the United States touch lives every single day. As one of the largest community based organizations in the world YWCA has been a part of all of our lives. YWCA is often a focal point in our communities connecting and helping our neighbors for generations. YWCA seeks to eliminate racism, empower women, and promote peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all.

I want to collect some stories about the good work of our local YWCAs. Leave a comment below telling us a little more about your story.

Share your stories and ask your friends to share theirs. I look forward to hearing more about what YWCA is doing in your city.

Make sure to note which city you are writing from. On Friday July 30, 2010, A Small Change will make a $50 donation to a YWCA in the city with the most stories (comments).

Markham Mark of Distinction

Last year I posted about this award and I wanted to post again when they opened the award this year. Here are the details.

Markham Vineyards is opening submissions to their annual Mark of Distinction program. They are giving two $25,000 awards to programs who are making a distinct mark in their community. Nominate your program on their website before July 19. The top nonprofits will be highlighted on their website starting August 10 with the top two projects to each receive $25,000.

March Goodness & Pepsi

Razoo is doing it again, this is year 2 in their March Goodness competition. But this year they are only letting in a small number of nonprofits. Check out the requirements to sign-up and submit your application before February 26. Grand prize is $20,000 with a number of prizes based on region around the $1,000 level.

Pepsi Refresh Project

If you are a person, business, or nonprofit with an idea to make a difference you should check out this project. Every month Pepsi will pick 1000 ideas which will be voted on and the top 2 will receive $250,000. For more information and to submit an application.

Conduit & Global Mojo: Grants & Awards

Conduit Gives

Conduit helps ignite fundraising in your organization through increased engagement and growing your web traffic. The first 100 nonprofits who sign-up receive access to up to $300,000 a month throughout 2010.

Organizations can apply from now until February 15, 2010. Check out their website to sign-up.

GlobalMojo

GlobalMojo raises money for 501c3 nonprofits through online search and purchases. You download their browser and choose which organizations benefit from your surfing the web. For the month of December 100% of Global Mojo’s revenue will go to the nonprofits of your choice.

Chase Gives $25,000

America’s Giving Challenge #2

America’s Giving Challenge is one of my favorite online fundraising competitions. Last year the Causes application on Facebook raised over $600,000 for nonprofits during the challenge.

America’s Giving Challenge is a 30-day competition, running until November 6th that allows causes to compete for cash awards by inspiring the most people to donate to their cause, regardless of the dollar amount.

This competition has a $1,000 award every day for the most donations in a 24 hour period. There is a grand prize of $50,000 for the highest number of unique individual donations between October 7 and November 6. And there is also a runner up prize of $25,000 for second place and $10,000 for 3rd to 7th place (details & other prize info).

To get started start a new cause on Facebook or enter your current cause by visiting your cause homepage. Or, sign up on their website (and check the leaderboard).

The Edge Visible Challenge: $1,000 Award

I’m always trying to let you know right away when I learn about a new online award or grant. The Edge Group in Washington and California is celebrating their 5 year anniversary with a $1,000 award. They believe that nonprofits often describe themselves with such generic language that they become invisible to the communities they are in.

If you’ve got 15 minutes to tell them your organizations story, and are a 501(c)3 you are eligible. Answer the following questions using “visible, mission specific language” on their website in 100 words or less per question.

Describe your nonprofit organization, who are you?
What does your organization do/offer to fulfill your mission?
Where (geographically, office locations, etc.) do you fulfill your mission?
When do you offer your service, products, or programs (week/month/year)?
Tell us something unique or special about your organization.

The deadline to submit your application is August 31, 2009. The winner will be announced via email and on The Edge website on September 15, 2009.

Join an Interactive Community?

Ok, so I’m getting excited about a new idea. Who would get excited about all of us together starting an online community where we promote each other’s online fundraising?

Would you be willing to commit to comment and vote for each other to win/raise money for your organization? Online fundraising can be really hard especially when you’re first getting started. But through this blog maybe we can make it easier for everyone.

Here are a couple of ideas that I’m thinking we could offer if together we decided to create this community.

Promotion of nonprofits who are competing for online grants & awards to help bring up your voting numbers
Forum discussions on fundraising and social media issues, along with forum leaders/experts to help coordinate and answer questions
Live video feed discussions where I will (or try to) answer any social media or nonprofit question from your nonprofit
A resource for you to ask questions and provide outside advice on how your organization can think about social media and online fundraising questions

This idea will not work unless I get a flood of responses from all of you. Please send me an email or leave a comment (or both!) if you would like to join. If you would be willing to co-lead a component this concept please send me an email and I’d love your input.

50 States for Good program

“Through the 50 States for Good program, the company is now asking its consumers to help decide what projects around the country should receive the company’s financial support. With a $100,000 community action fund and a goal of inspiring participation across all 50 states, Tom’s of Maine encourages people to share their opinions on the projects that matter most to them.” – www.50statesforgood.com

Applications are available on their website and are due by August 30. At that time submissions will be voted on and the 5 projects with the most votes will receive $20,000.

An Idea

Here is an idea… I find out about these things every so often and I do enjoy letting you know about them. Would you be interested in helping each other out with the voting process as a community?

What I am thinking is the first 3 to 5 of you that are going to submit an application would let me know. Then, as a community, we can help each other out and vote on a readers applications. What do you think? Would you be interested in something like this? Would you be willing and committed to help vote for each other?

Mark of Distinction

Until June 30th Markham Winery is holding a contest awarding two people $25,000 to accomplish a project in their city. You can nominate someone or submit a proposal on their website. On July 27th, 10 projects will be chosen and posted on their website. The public with then vote to determine each winner. (Submitted by Laurie Shulman from Marina Maher Communications)

Social Media Makeover by CommuniCause
