Books
Here you will find information on books that I have read the I recommend. Feel free to send me a copy of a book that you’ve written and if I like it I’ll post it here.
The 11 Questions Every Donor Asks by Harvey McKinnon
This book is brilliant and simple. I was shocked at how straight forward and profound this book is. Harvey does a really good job of making asks very simple and explaining exactly what the donor means with each of their major questions.
Grassroots Philanthropy
I just finished an incredible book by Bill Somerville with Fred Setterberg. Bill has some incredible ideas as to how to make foundations more efficient and effective. I found this book to be both challenging and inspiring and strongly recommend it to anyone who works in philanthropy. You will see a few posts on this books starting June 9.
The Spirituality of Fund-Raising
There are some really original ideas about how to treat a donor and how to think about asking for money. The book stresses a solid personal relationship with donors in a way that goes beyond just a financial gift. See my post about this book or visit their website if you are interested in receiving a free copy.
Digital Giving by Richard McPherson
This is a short and quick read about online fundraising. If you have questions about how can your organization participate in online fundraising, what do you need to think about when creating a plan, and what does the future of online giving look like check out this book.
Web Search Garage by Tara Calishain
You will see a series on this topic in a few weeks. This book has changed my web searching life. I did not know all of the details and nuances of the search engine. Everyone should have this as a resource on their shelf.
Giving by Bill Clinton
A brilliant book with some incredible ideas and stories in it. There is some really interesting information on green energy, global nonprofits, and has a really interesting chapter on business in the nonprofit sector.
